Ingredients
Scale
For the Filling:
- 2 cups fresh blackberries – Washed and gently patted dry.
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar – For sweetening the blackberries.
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice – Enhances the natural tartness of the blackberries.
For the Topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour – Forms the base of the crumble topping.
- 1/2 cup rolled oats – Adds a chewy texture to the topping.
- 1/2 cup brown sugar – Gives the crumble a rich, caramel-like sweetness.
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter – Cubed, ensuring the topping becomes perfectly crumbly.
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon – Adds warmth and depth to the dessert.
- 1/4 teaspoon salt – Balances the sweetness and enhances flavor.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, combine blackberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Toss gently and set aside to let the berries release their juices.
- In another bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to incorporate the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour the blackberry mixture into the prepared baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the berries.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the berry juices are bubbling at the edges.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For extra crunch, add chopped nuts like pecans or almonds to the topping.
- Use frozen blackberries if fresh are unavailable (no need to thaw beforehand).
