A savory, colorful, and aromatic dish combining sweet Italian sausage, sautéed onions, bell peppers, and garlic, perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 (4 ounce) links sweet Italian sausage
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
- ½ medium red onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ cup white wine, or more to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
- Add the sausage links and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the yellow and red onions, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the garlic, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper, sautéing for another 5-7 minutes until the peppers are tender.
- Stir in the dried basil and oregano, followed by the white wine, scraping up any browned bits from the skillet.
- Return the sausages to the skillet, reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until the sausages are cooked through.
Notes
- Serve with pasta, in a sandwich, or as a main dish with a side salad.
- Adjust the wine to taste or substitute with chicken broth for a non-alcoholic version.
