Description

A savory, colorful, and aromatic dish combining sweet Italian sausage, sautéed onions, bell peppers, and garlic, perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 6 (4 ounce) links sweet Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • ½ medium red onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ cup white wine, or more to taste

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
  • Add the sausage links and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the yellow and red onions, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the garlic, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper, sautéing for another 5-7 minutes until the peppers are tender.
  • Stir in the dried basil and oregano, followed by the white wine, scraping up any browned bits from the skillet.
  • Return the sausages to the skillet, reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until the sausages are cooked through.

Notes

  • Serve with pasta, in a sandwich, or as a main dish with a side salad.
  • Adjust the wine to taste or substitute with chicken broth for a non-alcoholic version.
